HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Adkins’ 3, not once but twice, lifts Dawgs in OT; Hawks take district matchup with Pirates

Lawrene County’s Trenton Adkins came of clutch twice for the Bulldogs in their come-from-behind win over Betsy Layne on Wednesday night.

Adkins’ three-point basket as time expired in overtime gave the Dawgs a 76-73 win. His three-point goal as time expired in regulation forced overtime.

He finished with 26 points as Lawrence County improved to 16-3 overall in the district matchup. Anthony Johnson followed with 24 and Cody Maynard added 13.

Jordan Frazier tallied a game-high 30 points for the Bobcats, now 12-5. Brady Robinson finished with 16 and Chase Mims tossed in 13.

Pike Central has taken the upper hand in the 60th District following a 72-68 road win over Belfry on Tuesday night.

Jaylan Rigdon fired in a game-high 33 points, including 19 of 21 from the free throw line. Josh Du Toit followed with 14 points while Jaden Stewart tallied 12 and Peyton Compton net 11.

The Hawks moved to 6-7 overall.

DeMahjae Clark led the Pirates (6-6) with 27 points and Sal Dean tossed in 17. Tykee Peterson finished with 16.
