HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Paintsville, Lawrence County score tourney wins

The Paintsville Lady Tigers and Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs punched their tickets to the girls’ 15th Region tournament semifinals with wins at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Tuesday night.

Emilea Preece fired in 17 points to lead three Paintsville players in double-figure scoring in a 50-22 victory over Belfry. Camryn Helton followed with 15 and Kylie Kinner net 12.

Cushi Fetcher finished with 14 in her final game with the Lady Pirates. Jenna Sparks had 12 rebounds.

Lawrence County’s Sophia Adkins hit five straight three-point baskets in the third period to help spark a 57-41 win over the Shelby Valley Lady Kats in the nightcap.

Kensley Feltner finished with a double-double in the win with a game-high  29 points and 14 rebounds.

Alyssa Elswick had 22 in her final game with Valley.

Paintsville and Lawrence County will meet in the semifinals on Friday night.
