Improper taillights lead police to meth trafficking arrest

MARTIN, Ky. — A Floyd County man who was pulled over for having his brake lights covered in duct tape ended up going to jail for meth trafficking.

A sheriff’s deputy pulled over a Toyota pickup for having its lights covered. When he went to speak to the driver, identified as Terry Qualls, 69, of Martin, he recognized him as the subject of several tips from the public as being a drug trafficker.

The deputy deployed K-9 Zoe to sniff around the vehicle, and the dog alerted on the front bumper. Following a search of the truck, deputies found a bag containing 11 grams of meth in the air breather. Police consider that amount of be 22 times more than personal use.

Qualls was arrested on a felony count of meth trafficking.
