PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The former city attorney for Elkhorn City is expected to enter a guilty to plea to federal charges next week.

Timothy Belcher, 56, was indicted back in March on seven counts of bank fraud and three counts of making false statements on tax returns. He is accused of converting a settlement of more than $800,000 to his own use. That money had been placed into escrow for the children of a man killed in a car crash.

Belcher had originally pleaded not guilty in the case, but on Thursday he filed a motion that he be allowed to change his plea.

A judge granted that request on Friday and set the hearing for next Thursday.

Court records do not indicate to what charges Belcher intends to plead, or whether he has a plea agreement with prosecutors.
