NEW ORLEANS – Marshall University guard Jalen Speer was named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday as announced by the league office.
The native of Gainesville, Florida, averaged 23.5 points, 7.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds as he shot 51.6 percent (16-of-31) from the field and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from three-point range in wins over Georgia State and App State.
On Wednesday, Speer tallied 26 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a victory over the Panthers and followed that with a 21-point, seven-assist effort in a win over the Mountaineers on Saturday.
Speer’s 89 assists this season rank 22nd in the country with his 5.9 assists per game ranking 25th.
Marshall is back in action on Wednesday night as it takes on JMU in Harrisonburg, Virginia, at 7 p.m.
