Sheriff Scott Hazlette called in a report of a domestic dispute at a home in Sitka, then called back a little later to say he had heard a gunshot. When police got inside the house, they found Rocky Darin Harless, 41, of Sitka, lying on a bed.

Witnesses told officers that Harless had come home drunk and started arguing with his wife, then grabbed her by the hair and dragged her out of the room. That led to a fight with his sons.

At some point, police say Harless fired a gun through a mirror hanging on the wall, while seven people were on the other side of the wall, including Sheriff Hazlette.

Harless was arrested and charged with six counts of wanton endangerment, one count of wanton endangerment of a police officer, and two counts of fourth-degree assault. He is being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.
