THELMA, Ky. — A Johnson County man is in jail on trafficking charges, after police responding to a report of shots being fired found a garage full of drugs instead.

When police went to the home, located on Lively Lane at Thelma, Brian Charles, 40, answered the door and gave them permission to look inside the home to make sure no one had been shot. Officers found no gunshot victims, but did spot a bag of meth lying out in the open in the garage.
Charles told police he didn’t know it was there, but his wife said he had been in trouble for drugs in the past, and she gave officers permission to conduct a more thorough search. That search turned up another bag of meth, two bags of marijuana, three bags of pills and various types of paraphernalia.
Charles was arrested for meth, marijuana and legend drug trafficking, and other charges.
He is currently under indictment for trafficking in meth, heroin, cocaine and fentanyl in Shelby County, after he was pulled over for running a stop sign and police found drugs in the car. He is scheduled to enter a plea in that case later this month.
