Kentucky Power takes to the air

THELMA, Ky. –  This fall, Kentucky Power is taking to the air to trim trees and maintain right of ways for power lines. In the past few weeks, a helicopter carrying a line of saws below it has trimmed lines near West Liberty, Hazard, Pikeville and Prestonsburg.  On Thursday, the contractor, Aerial Solutions of Tabit City, NC, worked to clear right of ways in the Thelma community of Johnson County.  Kentucky Power officials say using the helicopter is the most cost effective way to do this work in our region, saying one hour of aerial trimming would take three to four days to do manually.
