SOUTH WILLIAMSON, Ky. — A pair of West Virginia men were arrested in Pike County, after being found with more than a pound of marijuana.

A state trooper spotted a car driving without lights on U.S. 119 in South Williamson around 10 p.m. Thursday and pulled it over. As he approached the vehicle, he could detect a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside.

The officer asked the driver, Isaiah Joplin, 22, and passenger, Silas Boyd, 19, both of Williamson, if they had any marijuana. They admitted to using a marijuana vape pen, but the trooper thought there was more and searched the vehicle.

Inside a backpack, the officer found between 1 and 2 lbs. of marijuana in two plastic bags that were inside a shipping envelope addressed to Joplin, along with a set of scales.

Both men were arrested and charged with trafficking in more than 8 ounces of marijuana, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
