Whitesburg Police were called Saturday night from a man caught someone breaking into his truck, which was parked on Main Street. Police reviewed video footage from city hall and saw the suspect run into the basement of an abandoned building.

The man, identified as 20-year-old Caleb Isaiah Ritchie, was still there when they arrived, and he was reportedly in the act of stuffing his backpack and some Christmas gifts into an area between an air conditioning unit and the floor.

He was arrested for the break-in, and then the officers noticed his backpack matched one used by a suspect caught on camera stealing packages from a UPS return drop box. He reportedly admitted to taking packages from the box to sell for food and other items.

Ritchie is now charged with a felony count of theft of mail matter, which is punishable by up to five years in prison. He also faces misdemeanor charges of trespassing and criminal mischief. He was later released without bond.
