MARTHA, Ky. — A Lawrence County man is dead, following a confrontation with police.

Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 14 went to a home at Martha just before midnight on Saturday, trying to locate a woman wanted on an assault charge. Police say 69-year-old Timothy Keeton came out of a neighboring home and told the officers to turn their lights off or he would shoot them out.

Police say Keeton went back inside and returned with a gun. Troopers told Keeton to drop the weapon, but say he pointed it in their direction instead, resulting in officers shooting him.

Keeton died at the scene, despite attempts to save him.

No other injuries were reported.

The KSP Critical Incident Response Team has been asked to investigate the shooting.
