PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Current projections by the National Weather Service call for the Levisa and Tug forks of the Big Sandy River to crest near the minor flood stage on Monday.
The Levisa Fork is expected to reach its peak in Pikeville around 7 p.m. Monday at 34.5 feet. The river is considered to reach minor flood stage at 35 feet in Pikeville.
Further down river, the Levisa Fork is not expected to approach flood stage in Prestonsburg, but is expected to cross into minor flood stage in Paintsville Monday morning, and crest less than a foot below moderate flood stage around 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Tug Fork is expected to crest a couple of inches above the minor flood stage of 27 feet in Williamson Monday afternoon. The Tug Fork is expected to crest nearly a foot over minor flood stage at Kermit Monday morning.
