PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Whitesburg man has been ordered to remain in jail as he awaits his trial on a federal drug conspiracy charge.

Mark Wayne Adams, 54, was indicted last month on a charge of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone.

The indictment accuses him of distributing oxycodone pills for nearly five years, from January of 2018 to December of 2022. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison, because he has three previous felony drug convictions.

It was those previous convictions, plus the accusation that the latest charge took place while Adams was on supervised probation from one of the earlier cases, that a judge determined there would be no conditions of release that would assure the safety of the community.

He continues to be held in the Pike County Detention Center.
