PIKEVILLE, Ky. (MTN) — A Facebook event page was created by eastern Kentucky locals to hold a public gathering in support of all law enforcement officers and for those who lay their lives on the line to protect and serve.
Amy White, one of the organizers of the Support Blue Lives Matter event, says that she wanted to create this event because the way law enforcement has been treated as of late.
“In my opinion, I feel that they are being demonized…in anything that you do, there is going to be a bad egg,” states Amy White. “I feel like every law enforcement officer is getting the brunt end of a mistake made by someone else…”
Even though there is turmoil between citizens and officers of the law, Amy wants officers to know that “we got your six.”
This public event is said to be a positive and peaceful community gathering and organizers are planning in accordance to the CDC’s recommended guidelines and regulations.
As someone who has lived and worked in Pike County for most of his life, William Matthew Reynolds says that law enforcement officers in the region go above and beyond to assist the public.
“They go into a situation that most people run from…if that’s not a hero or someone to look up to, I don’t know what is,” states Reynolds.
Organizers are attempting to schedule this event for July 12 at 3:00 PM in the Coal Run City Park.
