Belfry teacher charged with failing to report student’s relationship with another teacher

BELFRY, Ky. — A Belfry High School teacher faces a criminal charge for failing to report a student’s relationship with another teacher.

Christopher Salyers, 41, of Straight Fork, is charged with failure to report child neglect or abuse, which is a misdemeanor.

According to a criminal summons, a female student told Salyers that she was in a relationship with a male teacher at the school last November. Despite the admission, Salyers did not report the information as required, which the summons says “subjected the minor to further abuse.”

Salyers is the third teacher to come under investigation at the school.

Back in September, teacher and assistant football coach Nathan Coleman resigned after he came under investigation for unspecified allegations. Days later, an investigation began into a second teacher, who has not been publicly named, and he was placed on suspension.

Pike County Schools Supt. Reed Adkins has said the district will cooperate with police in all such investigations.

Salyers has been ordered to appear in court Oct. 25.
