PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — Floyd County Schools are making sure students have continuous learning, even when school is not in session.

Over the summer months, children from ages 1 to 13 in Floyd County have the opportunity to participate in a literacy and learning program. Summer meals will be provided to everyone from ages 1 to 18.

“The activities for 1 to 6-year-old’s will include parents staying with their children, so the early childhood staff can model for those families,” said Early Childhood Director for Floyd County Schools, Anna Shepherd.

The food and summer programs are completely free for those who participate.

“I think for all areas, but particularly our area, it’s really critical that we can continue to model for parents and provide activities for kids to attend within our community and certainly with the school,” added Shepherd.

The programs begin Monday, June 11th and last until July 27th.

“We’re really fortunate that we can continue to get more community partners on board with us each year to do activities and provide extra services.”
