Deputies with the Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office were told that Matthew Roger Owens, 50, of Salyersville, was at a Salyersville gas station and on his way to sell meth. The officers found him in the passenger seat of an SUV still at the gas station and went to talk to him.

The police report notes that when they asked Owens to step out of the vehicle to talk to them, they noticed a square bulge in his pants. Despite that, Owens said there was nothing in his pants.

After dispatch informed them that Owens was wanted in Ohio, the officers placed him under arrest and searched him, finding a small nylon case in his underwear. Inside the case was more than 100 grams of meth, nearly 2 grams of fentanyl and a small bag of assorted pills.

While searching the car, the deputies then heard what sounded like Owens attempting to unlock his handcuffs, and they found a handcuff key in his hand.

He was arrested and charged with meth and fentanyl trafficking, attempted escape and numerous other charges.
