SALYERSVILLE, Ky. A Magoffin County man has been arrested after being accused of raping a child.
Jared Owens, 26, of Flat Branch, was arrested Tuesday evening and booked in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center. He is charged with one count of first-degree rape and one count of first-degree sexual abuse.
Court records do not provide any details of the accusations, other than to say he was accused by an underage girl of forcibly raping her.
The age of the girl was not given, but that would play a role in sentencing if he were to be convicted. First-degree rape carries of maximum sentence of 20 years for a victim who is 12 or older, and a maximum sentence of either 50 years or life in prison if the victim is under 12.
