Pike man accused of setting mother’s house on fire

DRAFFIN, Ky. — A Pike County man has been arrested for allegedly setting his mother’s house on fire.

The fire occurred just after 8 a.m., Sunday, at a home on Pond Creek Road, at Draffin. Kentucky State

Police were called to the scene, where they determined that the resident’s son, David May, 46, had set the fire. The resident told police her son was in the garage at the time and she didn’t know how he started the fire.

Police next went to May’s home about a mile down the road and took him into custody.

As they went back to the scene of the fire, the police report notes that May began yelling at the firefighters and kicking the windows and bars of the police car.

May was booked in the Pike County Detention Center on charges of first-degree arson, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and menacing.
