SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — Two Magoffin County residents were arrested for drug trafficking, after police found them parked in the middle of a field.
Deputies were called to Grape Creek, after a caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked in a field about 40 feet from the road with its hazard lights flashing.
When the officers got there, they found Jason Lee Benton, 46, and Shauna Brooke Puckett, 43, both of Salyersville, standing by the car.
The officers thought Benton appeared to be under the influence of something, so they asked him to step to the rear of the car. When he did, they spotted a syringe and a white crystal in the center console. That prompted a search which turned up a few more syringes, as well as a container about 10 feet away from the car which had about 9 grams of fentanyl and small amounts of meth and heroin inside.
Both were arrested for fentanyl trafficking and drug possession, but that was just the start for Puckett.
When they got back to the sheriff’s office, police say Puckett slipped out of her handcuffs and ran out the back door of the station. She was taken back into custody with the help of a taser following a short chase and additionally charged with escape, fleeing police, resisting arrest and menacing.
Both continue to be held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville on $10,000 cash bonds.
