PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A man currently facing vehicular homicide charges for an alleged DUI crash last year that killed two Prestonsburg High School students will remain in jail under the same bond.
Marcus Logan Auxier, 21, of Nippa, is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, DUI, three counts of wanton endangerment, three counts of first-degree assault, and leaving the scene of an accident. He is accused of being impaired in July 2023 when he crashed his vehicle with five other people in the car.
Two of those passengers, 16-year-old Kendra Jade Moreno and 13-year-old MaKenna Reese Barnett, died of their injuries.
Auxier has been held on a $100,000 bond since April, but his attorney said he had no way to pay that amount and asked that his bond be lowered to $2,500. Commonwealth’s Attorney Brent Turner and the victims’ families opposed that request.
Floyd Circuit Judge Johnny Ray Harris heard arguments last Thursday and this week issued a ruling denying the request without elaboration. Harris did say he would entertain a future motion for bond reduction if Auxier’s March 10 trial date is delayed for any reason.
