Magoffin woman charged with trying to stab officer

SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — A Magoffin County woman is in jail for allegedly trying to stab a police officer.

A sheriff’s deputy went to the home of Elizabeth Reed, 49, of Salyersville, on Friday, over a complaint that she cooking meth inside the residence.

When the officer arrived, he heard a woman screaming and saw smoke coming from the kitchen, so he went in. Inside, he saw black, charred material on the stove and throughout the home, as well as two cookers boiling over.

Reed then appeared with a butcher knife and allegedly started swinging it at the deputy. The officer pulled his gun and convinced her to drop the knife, but she then grabbed a broken piece of glass and allegedly started swinging that at the officer.

She was ultimately arrested on two counts of wanton endangerment and other charges. She is being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, in Paintsville.
