Man arrested after assault witnessed in video chat

STOPOVER, Ky. — A Pike County man was taken to jail, after a woman’s assault was witnessed during a video chat.

Kentucky State Police responded to a call from someone who was Facetiming with the victim, when 39-year-old James Daugherty allegedly began shooting a gun inside the home.

Police responding to the home found the victim with a large gash in the back of her head, allegedly caused by Daugherty hitting her with the butt of his gun. bShe also told police Daugherty fired the gun numerous times before and while striking her.

In addition to the victim, there was also a 14-year-old boy inside the home at the time. The boy told police he was in the room when the shooting started and he jumped out a window and hid.

Daugherty was later found outside a nearby home and was taken into custody. He is charged with assault, wanton endangerment and alcohol intoxication.
