PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man who engaged in a standoff with police for several hours Monday has been charged with killing his mother.
Police were initially called to his home over reports of a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, Alex Yuhas, 59, of Old Wagner Station Road, refused to come out and he allegedly threatened officers.
Yuhas was arrested several hours later after Kentucky State Police negotiated his surrender.
Inside the home, they found the body of his mother, Paulette Mullins, 75, who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.
Yuhas has now been charged with murder and terroristic threatening, as well as third-degree assaulting an officer after he allegedly spit on an officer after he was taken into custody. He is being held in the Pike County Detention Center.
