May Scores 500th Point as Martin County Tops Shelby Valley

The Martin County Lady Cardinals opened their season with a strong showing Tuesday night, earning a 77–59 win over the Shelby Valley Lady Kats.

Sophomore Maci Maynard set the tone on both ends of the floor, finishing with a dominant stat line of 21 points, 24 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Senior Chloe May added a standout performance of her own, shooting 61.5 percent from the field while pulling down 10 rebounds. May also hit a major milestone during the win, scoring her 500th career point.

Freshman Annaleigh Davis contributed 17 points, giving Martin County another reliable scoring option in the season opener.

Individual stats for Shelby Valley were not available at press time.

Martin County will return to action Saturday at Madison Central, taking on St. Henry at 2:30 p.m. as part of the Madison Central Shoot Out.

Shelby Valley will host J. I. Burton (Norton, Va.) on Friday in a 7:30 p.m. matchup.

In other girls basketball action Tuesday night, Phelps defeated Mount View (Welch, W.Va.) 52–44, Floyd Central topped Paintsville 64–45 and Belfry edged Lawrence County 60–59.
