A Floyd County resident died in an single-vehicle ATV accident in Knott County late Saturday evening.

Kentucky State Police with Post 13 in Hazard said Chase Caudill, 26, of McDowell, was driving a Polaris utility-terrain vehicle along Starfire Haul Road in the Talcum community of Knott County on Saturday at approximately 9:30 p.m. when the accident happened.

According to reports, Caudill overturned, which partially threw him from the vehicle and left him with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Knott County Coroner’s Office.

A female passenger was also involved in the accident. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police stated that Caudill and his passenger were not wearing seat belts or helmets at the time of the accident, adding that toxicology reports are pending.

The accident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Post 13.
