JENKINS, Ky. — Last week’s snowstorms made for treacherous driving conditions under the best of circumstances, but two Ohio men are accused of leading police on a chase while the roads were still covered with snow and ice.

Around 11 a.m., Thursday, a Jenkins Police officer spotted an Ford F-250 run a stop sign and tried to pull it over, but it sped away instead onto U.S. 23 and then onto U.S. 119.

In his report, the officer noted the truck was sliding all over the road and driving in the wrong lane, posing a risk to officers and anyone else on the road. The truck continued going faster as it approached Kona Hill, when the driver lost control and crashed into the highwall.

Two men then jumped out of the truck and tried to run away but were soon captured.

The men — identified as 32-year-old Diamond Saddler and 23-year-old Amir Peak, both of Akron, Ohio — were taken into custody as police searched their truck. During that search, officers found what they described as a large amount of marijuana in the glove compartment and a smaller amount on the driver’s side.

Both men were arrested on charges of fleeing police, wanton endangerment and marijuana trafficking, as well as menacing after both men allegedly made statements to police that the officers considered to be threats.
