MARTIN, Ky. — Police say a Pike County man went to a Floyd County auto dealer and took a test drive nearly two years ago, then kept on driving.

James Anthony Snell, 53, of Kimper, is now charged with a single count of auto theft.

Police say he went to BRC Auto Sales on Route 80 at Martin on August 31, 2024, and took a 2011 Jeep Compass out for a test drive and never returned.

He was finally arrested just before noon Saturday, after he was pulled over by a state trooper for cracked windshield. He was not driving the Jeep at the time of the traffic stop.

Snell now faces up to five years in prison, if he is convicted.
