PHELPS, Ky. — A Pike County man was arrested Thursday, after he allegedly showed up at a school with a loaded gun.
A sheriff’s deputy received a report that 45-year-old Bucky Smith, of Phelps, was on Phelps High School property acting strange and talking loudly. Smith had previously been told not to return to the school.
When the deputy went to check it out, he noticed that Smith had a .40 caliber Glock 23 in his possession. The deputy placed Smith under arrest after ordering him to place the gun on the ground.
The gun was loaded with 12 rounds, including one in the chamber.
Smith is now charged with possession of a weapon on school property, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
