PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man has now been formally charged in the death of his son.

A grand jury indicted Larry Harris, 61, of Abner Fork, on a charge of murder Wednesday evening. Harris is accused of shooting his son, 38-year-old David Harris, on March 30.

Police say the two men had been drinking and arguing when the shooting occurred. Afterwards, Larry Harris called 911 to report the shooting. He told the dispatcher he was tired of being “beat and cussed at,” and he also reportedly refused to give first aid to his son.

During a hearing back in April, Kentucky State Police Detective Tony Tackett testified that David Harris was shot six times.

Larry Harris remains in the Pike County Detention Center, where he has been held since his arrest March 30.
