PIKEVILLE, KY.-Nearly one month since the senseless killing of Pikeville Police Officer Scotty Hamilton, the city of Pikeville has come up with several ideas to ensure Officer Scotty Hamilton’s legacy. Tonight they proclaimed January 11th Scotty Hamilton day. They also renamed a portion of East Street in downtown Pikeville, Scotty Hamilton Way, which will effectively change the police department’s address to his unit number 111 which was also retired tonight at the city commission meeting. Officer Scotty Hamilton’s mother says she is overwhelmed with what the city has done and the people in it.
“I can’t believe everything the city has done to help us the family and Chelsea and the baby. It’s just amazing; I have never seen a community come together like Pikeville.”
Officer Hamilton’s Mother-in-Law says that all that was done here tonight will show his daughter, Brynlee, just how important he was to this community.
“As this young little girl grows up and walks down that street with her dad’s name or she has the Scotty Hamilton day to celebrate, she will then get to see how special her dad was and she will get to hear the stories to keep him alive and be able to learn who he was.”
As another token of appreciation for Officer Scotty Hamilton’s selfless service, the city waived the occupational tax for his last two pay periods.
