PIKEVILLE, Ky. – This past weekend’s storm wasn’t nearly as bad as most were anticipating, but freezing temperatures are making it difficult to return to normal.
“If you don’t need to be out, don’t go out,” advised Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter. “The roads are still very slick.” Carter explained that salt doesn’t stick to the roads in these temperatures.
City offices are closed today, but officials are working remotely, should you need to call. Tonight’s City Commission meeting has been cancelled, and a new date has not yet been determined.
Carter said residents need to conserve fuel and resources, since many may be home-bound through Tuesday or Wednesday. He also wants everyone to know that if you are in need of medication, medical supplies, or are without power/heat and unable to get to safety, you can call Dispatch at 606-437-6236 and someone will be able to assist you.
Warming stations are still open, and a list can be found at https://mountain-topmedia.com/pike-county-to-open-warming-centers/.
