PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Two people are dead following a pair of single-vehicle crashes in the Big Sandy Valley in recent days.

The first occurred last Wednesday on Indian Creek Road at Virgie. Just after 5 p.m., Michael Tackett, 51, of Virgie, was driving when his vehicle went off the roadd and struck a rock embankment and a tree.

He died at the scene.

The second occurred Friday afternoon, along U.S. 23 at Betsy Layne. Police say a car struck a rock embankment, resulting in both occupants of the car being ejected.
Casey Brown, 37, of Betsy Layne, died at the scene. Cammie Little, 34, of Pikeville, was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.
Kentucky State Police Post 9 in Pikeville continues to investigate both incidents.
