PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man faces felony charges after he allegedly paid for a vehicle with counterfeit money.

Pikeville Police were called to a bank over a report that a man was trying to deposit $3,800 worth of fake money. When they arrived, the man said that he didn’t know the money was fake and that he was depositing it for his grandson, who received it from Matt Bishop, of Varney, who bought a truck from him.

Local clerks’ offices were notified and police soon learned Bishop was in Floyd County, trying to obtain a license. Prestonsburg Police went to speak with him and found him in possession of another $6,200 in fake money.

Bishop was arrested on charges of auto theft, theft by deception and possession of a forged instrument.
