Services set for late Island Creek fire chief

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Funeral services for Island Creek Volunteer Fire Department Chief Randy Courtney have been announced.

Randy Courtney, 61, of Pikeville, died Sunday at UK Bluegrass Hospice Center.

He began his career as a firefighter first as a volunteer in 1979, then was hired full-time in 1989. He was a founding member of the Pike County 911 Board and served as president for the past 11 years. He also served as president of the Pike County Firefighter Association and helped found the Island Creek department, where he served as chief until his death.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, in the Pike County Central High School gymnasium, with burial following in Johnson Memorial Park, in Pikeville.

Visitation will begin after 6 p.m., Friday, at Pike Central, with a service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Amazing Grace Worship Center, 441 Adams Road, Pikeville, KY 41501.
