PRESTONSBURG, KY.–It is easy to get lost in the commercialism of the Christmas Holiday season with promotions of that “must have” Holiday gift everywhere you look.
The City of Prestonsburg remembers the reason for the season and is capitalizing on the festive décor in downtown to raise awareness of important issues that affect everyone in one way or another. The city’s official Christmas tree is surrounded by smaller Christmas trees each decorated for a specific purpose.
“Those are some very important trees for some very important causes. It’s to make people aware of different things like cerebral palsy, diabetes, cancer and more. This is stuff that is important to everybody. It’s reaching out and touching everybody, every day and for us to be able to put a tree up in recognition of these different causes that people need to be looking at and paying attention to is an honor for us to do it”
Mayor Stapleton went on to say that after Christmas each of those trees will be planted and when they mature will eventually be brought back downtown to become the city’s official Christmas tree.
