Standoff ends with suspect in custody

MARTIN, Ky. — Police spent several hours outside a Floyd County home Tuesday night, after a shooting led to an armed standoff with the suspect.

According to Kentucky State Police, 23-year-old Kennedy Logan Chaffins shot his parents earlier in the evening. James and Rhonda Chaffins were taken to Highlands ARH for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police surrounded the Chaffins home on Caney Fork Road, believing that Kennedy Chaffins was barricaded inside. About six hours later, Kennedy Chaffins was taken into custody by Martin City Police and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.

Police say he was taken into custody without incident, but no further details about his arrest have yet been made public.

Chaffins is now charged with first-degree assault and attempted first-degree assault. He is being held on a $100,000 full cash bond.
