PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Two Pike County residents were arrested after police reportedly found a stolen gun in their car during a traffic stop.

A Pikeville Police officer spotted a Ford Explorer swerving on U.S. 23 and pulled it over.

The officer discovered that the driver — Heather Smith, 41, of Pikeville — had a suspended license and appeared to be intoxicated, so he placed her under arrest.

The officer then found a loaded 9 mm pistol in the center console, and Smith reportedly said it was hers, but a check of the serial number revealed it had been reported stolen. Smith then allegedly told the officer that her passenger — Jeffrey Johnson, 52, of Virgie — told her to say it was hers, or he would “go away forever.”

Both were charged with receiving stolen property and Johnson was charged with felon in possession of a firearm. Smith was also charged with DUI and numerous traffic violations.
