INEZ, Ky. – Quick thinking and cooperation between law enforcement agencies Tuesday in Martin County solved a burglary case in less than three hours. Tuesday afternoon, an Inez resident returned home to find his home had been broken into, and discovered he was missing two handguns and an AR-15 rifle. He notified Martin County Sheriff John Kirk, and mentioned seeing three people with backpacks walking near his home as he arrived. After checking local business surveillance footage and searching the area, Martin County deputies along with Kentucky State Troopers located the three people inside the McDonalds in Inez. 31 year old Steven Bailey of Pikeville, 37 year old Peggy Maynard of Chattaroy, West Virginia and 43 year old Craig Mueller of Inez were arrested after admitting to burglarizing the home. In addition, they led police to the place where they stashed the weapons, and everything was returned to the homeowner within 3 hours of the burglary. The three remain lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on first degree burglary charges.
