PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A suspected drunk driver made a wrong turn that brought railroad operations to a standstill in Pikeville.
Police were called to a vehicle blocking the railroad crossing on Island Creek Road about 9 o’clock Sunday night.
When they arrived, they discovered that 34-year-old Bruce Begley, of Pikeville, had apparently made a wrong turn onto the tracks, resulting in his Hyundai Sonata getting stuck.
Police say Begley appeared highly intoxicated and was unable to communicate clearly or complete a field sobriety test.
And when a train came down the tracks and crashed into his vehicle, officers say he appeared not to notice, but instead was “hyper-focused” on trying to put his license back in his wallet.
No one was hurt in the crash.
Begley was arrested and charged with DUI and disrupting railroad operations.
