PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — This past weekend’s Bluegrass Mountain Cup foot and mountain bike races at the Sugarcamp Mountain Trails in Prestonsburg came to a sudden and tragic end Saturday, when one of the participants died.

Race organizers announced Tuesday on Facebook that Sam Schaffer, 34, of Lexington, died while running in the 5K trail race.

Following the tragedy, the rest of the weekend’s events were postponed. A new date has not yet been announced.
