Trio accused of abusing 2-year-old arraigned in Pike County

Three people appeared for arraignment Wednesday in a child abuse case in Pike County.

In Pike Circuit Court, 33-year-old Jerry Maynard, 26-year-old Betty Maynard, and 25-year-old Kylene Anderson all pleaded not guilty to charges each of first-degree criminal abuse. The three are accused of physically abusing Anderson’s 2-year-old child. Jerry Maynard is also facing an additional charge of first-degree wanton endangerment for allegedly striking Anderson while she held the child.

The three were arrested last month in the case and were later indicted. In Wednesday’s hearing, Jerry Maynard was ordered held on a $20,000 cash bond on the abuse charge and an additional $10,000 on the endangerment charge. Betty Maynard, who is Jerry’s wife, had previously posted a $10,000 property bond which was allowed to stand in the indictment case. Anderson’s public defender asked the court consider holding her on a $2,000 partially secured bond, but the prosecution in the case objected.

Anderson was ultimately ordered held on a $10,000 cash bond. Both Anderson and Jerry Maynard remain lodged in the Pike County Detention Center. Betty Maynard is free on bond. Pretrial hearings for all three were set for next year.
