
DORTON, Ky. — Two people were arrested after police found a trailer that had been stolen from the city of Jenkins.
On Friday, Kentucky State Police received a request for assistance from Jenkins Police, after the trailer was discovered at Dorton.
When police investigated, they found Chad Smallwood, 44, of Jenkins, and Courtney Childress, 31, of Pikeville, inside. Smallwood and Childress told police they had nothing to do with the theft and did not know the trailer was stolen.
A search of the trailer turned up needles, metal pipes and plastic bags with drug residue. Police also found a gun, despite Smallwood having a previous felony conviction.
Both Smallwood and Childress were arrested for receiving stolen property, public intoxication and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Smallwood was also charged with felon in possession of a firearm.
Both are being held in the Pike County Detention Center.
