LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky baseball team had several returning veterans this season, and a 2024 appearance in the College World Series to spur them on to an impressive 14-2 record so far this season.
The Wildcats went to the College World Series in 2024, finishing with a record of 46-16. They lost out to Florida in a 15-4 loss on June 19 of that year.
But hopes are high for a return visit.
One bright spot was the return of Tyler Bell, who was injured in the season opener but was then cleared to return as a designated hitter.
On the mound, UK also has a comfort zone. Unlike previous years, the Wildcats feel they have a handful of strong starters, including standout lefty Ben Cleaver and Jaxon Jelkin, who by late February had a fantastic 0.55 ERA.
The Wildcats’ two losses were to Morehead State 6-8 on February 17 and to Evansville on February 21 0-1.
The team will continue to ride their winning season playing Ball State (7-7) Tuesday.
