WEEKSBURY, Ky. — One person is dead following a shooting in Floyd County.

Floyd County Coroner Greg Nelson tells EKB News Michael Adney, 37, of Wheelwright, was shot Friday morning in what Kentucky State Police troopers say was a possible attempted break-in.

It happened on Kentucky Route 466 in the Weeksbury area of Floyd County around 8 o’clock.

“At this time, its still under investigation by the Kentucky State Police and the Floyd County Coroner’s Office,” said Nelson. “He’ll be sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.”

Nelson says Adney was shot multiple times.

Carol Thornsberry is from Wheelwright but works and hangs out at the Weeksbury Trading Post. The store is across the street from where the shooting took place. She says it makes her worried knowing someone was shot so close to where she spends most of her time.

“It was a very scary feeling,” said Thornsberry. “The atmosphere around here is not good anymore. There’s a lot of bad things that’s been going on lately. We’ve been seeing changes in people. We’ve been seeing people come in the store that’s changed a lot. You can just see it.”

Thornsberry says it will take her a while to get over the incident.

“I’m tore all to pieces. I’m shaking and I will shake the rest of the day. I fear for people. I fear for children this Summer playing out in the yards. I just really can’t explain how I feel. It’s a scary situation.”

Police, at this time, have not released the identity of the shooter or details surrounding the incident.
