ABINGDON, Va. — A federal inmate who was called the “worst of the worst” when he was convicted of carjacking and firearms charges in 20-16 has now been charged with killing his cellmate.
Samuel Silva, 45, is currently serving a 47-year sentence at U.S. Penitentiary Lee in southwestern Virginia on charges out of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In a new indictment, Silva is charged with first-degree murder for the stabbing to death Abraham Aldana in September of 20-18.
Prosecutors say the killing was willful, deliberate, malicious and premeditated … and that the offense was “especially heinous” because it involved “torture or serious physical abuse.”
The case will be eligible for the death penalty.
