
The Magoffin County Lady Hornets turned in a dominant performance Thursday night, sweeping Jackson City 3-0 at home in Salyersville.
Magoffin County controlled the pace from the start, taking sets of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-15. Senior Jaylee Reed led the way with six kills and three serving aces, while Kellen Simpkins added a strong all-around effort with two kills, 15 assists and three aces of her own.
The win moves the Lady Hornets to 4-7 on the season. They’ll look to keep the momentum going on Tuesday when they host Menifee County. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Elsewhere in area volleyball action Thursday, Pikeville edged Floyd Central 3-2 in a five-set battle (video available on the Mountain Top Sports Facebook page). Paintsville swept Pike Central 3-0, Belfry outlasted Prestonsburg 3-2, and Betsy Layne knocked off Lawrence County 3-2.
