ABINGDON, Va. — Three California residents who used Snapchat and Instagram to sell fentanyl to Wise County teenagers who later overdosed on the drugs have pleaded guilty to federal charges this week.
Alexander Ortiz, 25; Destiny Perez, 23; and Jorge Perez Jr., 24, each pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute more than 400 grams of fentanyl.
Ortiz also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug crime and faces at least 15 years in prison. The Perezes face at least 10 years.

Authorities say the trio sold tens of thousands of fentanyl pills to buyers around the country from November of 2020 to June of 2022. Among the buyers was Paul Mason Perkins, 21, of Big Stone Gap, who ordered 1,000 pills every few weeks and sold them in Wise County. Those pills were linked to two teenage overdoses in November of 2021.
Perkins pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute fentanyl last year and awaits sentencing.
The California trio will be sentenced on separate dates in April and May.
