7,000 still without power after six days

Power restored to about 35,000

Work crews made made significant progress in restoring power across the region, with fewer than 7,000 customers still without power across the Mountain Top News coverage area.

That’s down from more than 42,000 at the height of the outage.

Most of the outages that remain are in two counties — Lawrence and Johnson.

Lawrence County had seen 99 percent of its power customers lose electricity last week. Now, slightly more than half have had power restored. However, about 3,800 customers are still without power after six days.

About 2,400 customers remain without power in Johnson County.

Power company officials have said that some outages could take up to two weeks to resolve.
