HINDMAN, Ky. — A Knott County man is in jail after a woman was found lying in the road Wednesday evening, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

State troopers were called to the scene just after 6:30 Wednesday after the woman was found on Route 550. She was taken to an area hospital to be treated for her injuries.

The investigation led troopers to conclude that the woman was shot by Larry Calhoun, 70, of Garner, after the two had been involved in an argument. After a brief standoff, Calhoun was arrested and charged with first-degree assault.

The incident remains under investigation.
